Ms. Monajem's skill in combining humor and violence (although not graphic) reminds me of Kresley Cole's in her Immortals After Dark series. And magic too, as Cuff the hobgoblin is one of my favorite secondary characters and he doesn't speak.

A perfect selection if you are seeking a historical romance with a touch of the whimsical to read at the beach or on the back porch.

Heat Level: a trifle over sweet, but not really steamy.

I read this book as part of "A Most Peculiar Season" on KU. I hadn't read anything by this author before and I'm not sure I will in the future either. This book starts with the H referring to a hobgoblin that he speaks to. I was put off because I don't like this theme in a book. This is also a second chance story, which I'm also not keen on at all. The main characters were childhood friends and fell in love when the h was 17 and the H was 21. Fast forward 5 years later and the h is engaged to an Earl and the h, although he is the son of a Marquess, is working in trade as a carpenter. These 2 run into each other and a ball and the animosity between them is tangible. The H broke things off with the h 5 years before because he was told that the h had betrayed him by sleeping with one of his friends. He gave her the cut direct and they haven't spoken since. I was so peeved that the H could be this petty and never check things out with the h. It annoyed me the whole way through the book. The plot takes some twists and turns that had be shaking my head but if you accept the hobgoblin in the first few pages then perhaps you'll be willing to suspend your disbelief for the rest of the book.
Good read
I was a little skeptical in the beginning, si fy stuff isn't for me, but it kept my interest till the very end.
This was a great book ,I laughed with them I cried with them .When you get to go where the characters are you know you picked the right book.

I really enjoyed the strength and innocence of andromeda as she found her magic and true feeling the sincerity of fen was delightful. Their discovery of the past truth and depth of their love was a wonderful journey to travel
I thought the story started out slow but then it caught fire -pun intended. Once spurned by Lord Fen Andromeda buries her old self and becomes the perfect lady- and becomes engaged to the wrong man. Their journey back to each other is fast paced and fascinating. Throw in some magic and a hobgoblin and you have a really good read.
Loved it! I normally read Regency or Victorian romances. I was delightfully surprised to read this Regency romance with just a little magic in it. I totally enjoyed it & could hardly put it down. I hope we get more of the Regency romances with a little magic from this author.
