This is a great book. It picks up right at the end of "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein." This is the book that gives closure of Dracula and The monster. This is the second time I read this book. I hope that there will be more in the future.

Return of The Wolf Man Jeff Rovin 9780425165768 Books Reviews
For all of you "40 and 50-somethings" who enjoyed the Universal Movies Monster "Series", this book will be a treat! Jeff Rovin has succeeded in reproducing all the camp, scariness, and fun that the 1950's and 60's movies about Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man contained.
I first stumbled on to Rovin by reading his excellent story of bats taking over the city of New York in "Vespers" (highly recommended). Checking through the list of his books, I found "Return of the Wolf Man". After reading a number of the reviews listed here with , I decided to give the book a try. I was not disappointed. Rovin has captured all the pathos and anguish that Larry Talbot carries with him as the Wolf Man. Just like in the movies the reader can't help but feel the conflicting emotions of sympathy and shock over Talbot's deeds as the Wolf Man.
Depictions of Count Dracula and Frankenstein's monster are true to legend and these monsters play active roles in this novel. And, as with the Universal Pictures movies about these characters, this book doesn't really end, but rather fades away to where a sequel can later pick up the action.
Even if you weren't a fan of those old monster films, Rovin's story is strong enough to stand alone on it's own merits. It has generous amounts of chills, surprises, and gore. Characterization is somewhat weak, but Rovin makes up for this shortcoming with terrific story-telling and vivid word pictures.
"Return of the Wolf Man" is a solid page-turner and one book that horror fans won't be disappointed with !
There's nothing I can really say about this book that hasn't already been said by other reviews, but I enjoyed it so much I had to say something anyway. This book has been on my radar for a long time, but its so expensive on here (even used) that I thought I'd never get ahold of it. So needless to say my day (no my week, no my geek life!) was made when I found this book sitting on the shelf at a used book store I like to frequent. Much like the Frankenstein Monster I lunged towards it and was ready to fight off anyone who tried to take it from me. I couldn't believe I had found it. And when I started it I thought surely it won't be as good as I'm hoping. I'd read the universal monster tie-in to The Mummy (I love mummies) called The Mummy Dark Ressurection and hated it (there were no mummies!). So I was a little skeptical, but then this book started and didn't let go! I was back to my childhood of watching The Wolfman and the Frankenstein Monster and Dracula (who are all in this book). And this was all old school. None of the changes to the mythology that present day "monster" stories have turned these creatures into. Vampires hate garlic, the moon turns a man with the curse into a werewolf and all the good old fashioned rules. And the characters felt like themselves. I could totally picture Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Boris Karloff as The Monster and Lon Chaney Jr as The Wolfman. Especially Chaney, he really shines in this book. It truly felt like he was in this role.
I had read Jeff Rovins Fatalis before, and althought it was a good read it was a very slow one. Took awhile for the action to start up. So I didn't expect this book to start with a bang, but it did! The few times there isnt anything suspensful going on your so into the characters and they're surrounding location (rovin writes creepy atmosphere very well) that you'll finish this book in no time. No putting the book down to finish it later when you aren't busy (I'm guilty of that with some books). Dare I say this books is even worth what is charging for it. But search your local used book stores first. I'm one to finish a book and trade it in and get something else. But this is one book that will forever be in my collection. Thats probably why its so hard to find, people don't want to let it go! If your into the old universal monsters (and if you want to deserve the air in your lungs you should be) then get this book as soon as you can.
There's an old saying, "You can't go home", but Jeff Rovin's RETURN OF THE WOLF MAN disproved that. Not only did the book take me home, when I got there I felt like I was surrounded by family! Mr. Rovin picks up the story during the climactic end battle of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and nicely weaves all the pieces together. The monsters are true to themselves, particularly the Lawrence Talbot character. Lon Chaney, Jr. imbued him with a strong sense of decency, pathos and pity, all of which Mr. Rovin retains. You'll hear Chaney's voice in every Talbot line in the book.
The Count Dracula and Frankenstein's monster characters are also well drawn, although the monster, by this time, was looong past the powerful characterizations given by Boris Karloff in the first three films in the series. Rovin fills the book with many Easter Eggs for fans of the series, including the names of other Universal film characters and REAL LIFE actors! Several nagging questions are answered and it all works splendidly.
This is a great book. It picks up right at the end of "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein." This is the book that gives closure of Dracula and The monster. This is the second time I read this book. I hope that there will be more in the future.
